about

David Kirby’s latest offering, ‘Songs to Depress Your Dog’, is a 5 track Folk-Punk EP that is self-described as ‘mainly a lot of cowboy chords and self-deprecating lyrics about break-ups and being sad’. The lead single ‘The Shipping Forecast’ is a high-energy musical powerhouse that combines a rock band arrangement with traditional folk instrumentation, that could best be described as ‘an absolute nightmare to fit into an iTunes genre category’.

Produced by New Zealand rock producer Jake Stokes, the EP balances slick and rough, with all the character and soul of David’s trademark wry personality and self-effacing sense of humour on full display, alongside massive guitars, hopeful harmonica and toe-tapping mandolins.

‘Songs to Depress Your Dog’ will be released on the 4th March 2022.

about

David Kirby Wellington, New Zealand

David Kirby is a folk-punk, acoustic singer/songwriter. As he never really got the hang of the jingly-jangly style of guitar, his style is mainly a lot of cowboy chords and self-deprecating lyrics about break-ups and being sad, but in person he's actually quite jolly. He spends most of his time drinking tea and writing bios in the 3rd person. ... more
