With his affections unrequited He finally settled on the noose To drink and smoke until his last breath left him Just like everybody else Hampered by his broken heart-strings He finally knew what he should do That by only putting states between them Could he be more aloof So maybe that's what he calls progress Checking in every craft beer on the taps Like a fair trade for happiness It's nothing he can't fix by buying a brand new Cowboy Hat He read the broken words on a broken screen And cursed the notion of serendipity We don't know how but he lost his flare Between the Devil's cut and the Angel's share It's just something to be processed Can't spend a future dwelling on the past It might not get him noticed At least he'll always keep the memory of that old Cowboy Hat But he's not a cowboy so don't take him for a ride He's at the stage now where this bottle is his bride But if he gets another chance to break the cycle This might be his redemption So let it end here on this rooftop A lethal cocktail of jetlag, IPA Exhaustion and Whisky And don't forget of course your very own brand new Cowboy Hat

Well there are three types of people in this world Career minded, family and the third Which gets harder to define Which for us lot is just fine We won't make a fuss Cause we're happy being miscellaneous If you're the family type then we don't mind To raise the next generation is a massive source of pride But don't judge us when we haven't settled down by thirty Don't judge us when we don't all rush to make you an Auntie Or an Uncle or a Grandad or whatever you would be Cause it's the miscellaneous life for me And if you're career-minded that's okay You put the effort in and probably deserve what you get paid But don't judge us when we just work on some dead-end job on trolleys Cause for us lot it's no cul-de-sac, it's literally just money To save and get away on a plane, train or even a bus To keep on being miscellaneous We are miscellaneous Please don't pray for us We're not lost souls We just have a different list of goals And if you're serious About trying to change us Well simmer down You can keep your office job, your tie rack Three kids, hatchback and your crumpled wedding gown So if you find that you're struggling to find the one Or feel completely empty when your working day is done Take a leaf from Douglas Adams and, no don't panic Some things in life they just don't work out as you plan it Keep on going mate, but if you find this all feels erroneous Well you might just be miscellaneous Cause we are miscellaneous Please don't pray for us We're not lost souls We just have a different list of goals And if you're serious About trying to change us Well simmer down Oh simmer down You can keep your tax returns from '93 Claiming back your VAT Maybe you'll buy a yacht someday With all that cash you've saved away But what's the point in luxury With a knackered back and a dodgy knee You've worked all of your life away And never took the time stray Or drink the wine or down a beer On another culture's hemisphere And maybe you're okay with that But me I'm gonna stay miscellaneous We. Are. Miscellaneous Please don't pray for us We're not lost souls We just have a different list of goals And if you're serious About trying to change us Well simmer down You can keep your office job You can keep your tie rack You can keep your three kids And you can keep your hatchback You can keep your crumpled wedding gown And whatever you call wealth Just keep your opinions to yourself

Childhood bedroom, back again I'm here for the wedding of a childhood friend And there were cartoons here once, long since gone Outlined in sky blue with Pokemon But it's a fitting metaphor for growing old They'll cover your childhood dreams with beige paint and window mould And I know I can't complain They do so much for me and I'm always such a pain But I'm too old now to change I'm ungrateful and a user And the story stays the same because I don't want to be here I don't want to be here And I'm not sure to what extent I mean I'm just a malcontent and such a drama queen I don't know where I'll end up I just know I've got The Fear And I know I don't want to be here I need to grow up Sort this out I'm over 30 and too old to piss about But there's just no passion No inner drive I need a motive if I'm gonna survive because I don't want to be here I don't want to be here And I'm not sure to what extent I mean I'm just a malcontent and such a drama queen I don't know where I'll end up I just know I've got The Fear And I know I don't want to be here I don't want to be here I don't want to be here I don't want to be here I don't want to be here

about

As a thank you to everyone for their support on the release of my last EP 'Songs To Depress Your Dog' I have decided to put out this mercifully short (and most importantly, free!) EP of new tracks.

All recorded in one-take, with all of the faults and flaws in tact, the way folk-punk should be!

I hope you enjoy the new songs, and if not, well it's free so...

about

David Kirby Wellington, New Zealand

David Kirby is a folk-punk, acoustic singer/songwriter. As he never really got the hang of the jingly-jangly style of guitar, his style is mainly a lot of cowboy chords and self-deprecating lyrics about break-ups and being sad, but in person he's actually quite jolly. He spends most of his time drinking tea and writing bios in the 3rd person. ... more
